#StackBounty: #windows-10 #audio #powershell PowerShell – Adjust per-app audio output

Bounty: 50

With the Windows 10 April Update 1803 the long overdue “App volume and device preferences” have been introduced.

However, I’m facing an issue where some (mainly older) applications have the correct (but not default) output set and don’t playback any audio over it. I need to set it to another (random) output and back to the correct one to actually work properly every time I launch the application.

My idea is to work around this by using a simple script which launches the application and then switches from the correct output to another one and back to the correct one. I don’t think PowerShell has a built-in feature to do so (correct me if I’m wrong), so I’d imagine the output settings can be found somewhere in the registry, but where would that be?
