If I release a new Docker image with a bug to my ECS Service, then the service will attempt to start new Tasks but will keep the old version around if the new tasks fail to start.

In that scenario, it will sometimes (not always) emit an Event to the bus like:

service xxx is unable to consistently start tasks successfully. For more information, see the Troubleshooting section.

and sometimes it will just emit loads of events like:

service xxx deregistered 1 targets in target-group yyy

I would like a CloudWatch Alarm to fire in this scenario. How can I achieve that?

I cannot see any CloudWatch metrics that track any relevant events that I could use to trigger this Alarm. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonECS/latest/developerguide/cloudwatch-metrics.html

If the Tasks fail to boot then I don’t even get any UnHealthyHostCount metrics on the LB Target Group.

I think I will have to create an EventBridge rule to watch for the above named event, but I can’t see an obvious way to have that rule trigger an Alarm. I have set a rule to forward "WARN" and "ERROR" events to SNS/email, but I don’t always get these events. So I frequently get a restart loop with no alarms firing. 🙁

Almost all examples are for Node.js, but I need to submit the errors from the frontend, not form backend. I even did not found which package which I should use for the frontend.

I have a log file which contains playerId values, some players have multiple entries in the file. I want to get an exact distinct count of to unique players, regardless of if they have 1 or multiple entries in the log file.

Using the query below it scans 497 records and finds 346 unique rows (346 is the number I want)

If I change my query to use count_distinct instead, I get exactly what I want. Example below:

with count_distinct function

The problem with count_distinct however is that as the query expands to a larger timeframe/more records the number of entries get into the thousands, and tens of thousands. This presents an issue as the numbers become approximations, due to the nature of Insights count_distinct behaviour…

“Returns the number of unique values for the field. If the field has very high cardinality (contains many unique values), the value returned by count_distinct is just an approximation.”.

This is not acceptable, as I require exact numbers. Playing with the query a little, and sticking with count(), not count_distinct() I believe is the answer, however I’ve not been able to come to a single number… Examples which do not work… Any thoughts?

In my current project, my objective is to detect different objects from a Stream of Frames. The video frames are captured using camera, connected with the Raspberry PI.

The following is a rough architecture.

The architecture design is as follows:

  • video_cap.py code is running on raspberry PI. This code sends a stream of images to the Kinesis Data Stream (called it FrameStream) in AWS.

  • The FrameStream Data Stream receives the stream and trigger to a lambda function (named lambda_function.py) . The lambda function is written using Python 3.7.

This lambda function receives streams of images, and trigger AWS Rekognition and sends an email notification.

My problem is even if I stop (by pressing Ctrl + C) ( video_cap.py python file, running on raspberry PI), the lambda function keep writing logs (reporting old received frames) into CloudWatch.

Please help me – how can I fix this issues? Please let me know if you need any additional information.

My goal is to get a simple “# of requests per day” value against a Route 53 hosted zone.

I see no straightforward way to do this.

I have created the query logging as explained here: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/Route53/latest/DeveloperGuide/query-logs.html

However this is extensive logging and it’s split per global edge server. All I want is “domain example.com was queried 40,000 times in the last 24 hours” and similar metrics.

Is this possible? The logging seems overkill and I’ll have to do quite a bit of parsing through all the subdirs to get that type of sum.
