#StackBounty: #networking #debian Automatically and Arbitrarily enable new network connections?

Bounty: 50

Using a stripped down debian (jessie) on a headless server (Dockstar, Armel). I had previously plugged in a MiFi with usb tether, and the Dockstar found it.

Mifi USB tether
usb 1-1.4: new high-speed USB device number 6 using orion-ehci
usb 1-1.4: New USB device found, idVendor=1410, idProduct=b00c
usb 1-1.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 1-1.4: Product: MiFi 6620L
usb 1-1.4: Manufacturer: Novatel Wireless
usb 1-1.4: SerialNumber: 0123456789ABCDEF
usbcore: registered new interface driver cdc_ether
rndis_host 1-1.4:1.0 eth1: register 'rndis_host' at usb-f1050000.ehci-1.4, RNDIS device, 00:xx:yy:aa:bb:cc
usbcore: registered new interface driver rndis_host

But I had to enable it by editing /etc/network/interfaces

    allow-hotplug eth1
    iface eth1 inet dhcp

Now I had to replace that Mifi with another one. It does not automatically enable the device. I’m assuming it’s showing up as eth2 right now. I may have to do this for a couple of devices.

How can I get it to automatically enable whatever random new networking device comes up? DHCP is fine.

#StackBounty: #debian #gnome #gnome3 #lightdm #gdm3 How do I change my default session?

Bounty: 50

How do I change the default session I get when I log in? I’m on Debian jessie. I tried changing settings on gdm3, tried installing lightdm and following this but it’s just not working.

For more specificity, I’m trying to default to gnome-classic instead of gnome. I want to turn on the computer, log in as any arbitrary user, and see gnome-classic, not gnome3 (preferably I’d remove the gnome3 default session, if there’s a way to do that).

#StackBounty: #debian #gnome #audio Sound settings not saved in Debian/GNOME – how to save them?

Bounty: 100

I am using Debian 8.7. I normally select the sound card I want to use and disable sound alerts through the sound options in Settings. However, these are never saved and on reboot I have to go in to Settings and set them again each time. Is there a way to save sound settings so that this doesn’t have to be done each reboot? Here is the inxi info on the card and drivers:

Audio: Card-1 Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Cypress HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5800 Series]
           driver: snd_hda_intel
           Card-2 Creative Labs SB X-Fi driver: snd_ctxfi
Card-3 Intel 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller
           driver: snd_hda_intel
Sound: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture v: k3.16.0-4-amd64

#StackBounty: #debian #keyboard-layout #tails-os #dvorak How to add Dvorak in Debian greeter of installation media CD/USB?

Bounty: 100

I want to contribute a patch to this feature request Consider adding Dvorak in the default keyboard layout option list in the greeter in Tails OS so I am thinking how to do it in Debian 8.7 first.
I do not understand precisely how you can make such a change in the existing USB Live media.

I do know how to make a persistent live system as in the thread How do I make a persistent live USB of Ubuntu 16.04? but how to make a change in the existing live installation media is unknown to me because

  • There is an installation code in apt-get which creates the installation on USB. It is using some codes. How can you study those codes which is about the keyboard layout in the greeter?

OS current: Debian 8.7
OS target: Tails OS

#StackBounty: #ubuntu #debian #kvm-virtualization #telnet #proxmox Can't telnet a server from vps

Bounty: 50

i try to understand why i can’t telnet this server 213.132.48.107 from any of my VPSs.
Well this ip is for a mail server i don’t own but our emails are not received by this server. when i checked the log i saw this error:

554 5.7.1 You are not allowed to connect.
Connection closed by foreign host.

I thought i’m in black list so i tried to telnet to that server from all my VPSs (7 VPSs) and always get the same error.

telnet 213.132.48.107 25
Trying 213.132.48.107...
Connected to 213.132.48.107.
Escape character is '^]'.
554 5.7.1 You are not allowed to connect.

But when i try from a dedicate server i can telnet.

I have contacted the server admin but didn’t get any response. I still don’t see any reason for them to block my IP address. we just installed the server and it’s used for regular emails only.

Please help me

My VPSs run debian/ubuntu/centos and all created created by proxmox
