#StackBounty: #ios #swift #mapbox #geocoding #mapbox-ios Does Mapbox Geocoding API iOS reverse geocode on large bodies of water (Oceans)?

Bounty: 50

I am using Mapbox’s Geocoding API on iOS (Swift) to reverse geocode coordinates. I have been able to make it work for any land coords, but when on the ocean my code does not run (or print the placemark):

        let task = geocoder.geocode(options) { (placemarks, attribution, error) in
            guard let placemark = placemarks?.first else { return }

            print(placemark.name)
          }

So is this not supported by the API or is there something I am not seeing, or is there an alternative to this?

I have read their API Documentation and could not find anything…

#StackBounty: #ruby #geocoding Offline reverse geocoding at country level [(lat, lon) to country] for Ruby

Bounty: 50

I am looking for offline geocoder that would

  • locate country where specific point is located
  • be usable in a Ruby script
  • work offline (required due to a high number of points)
  • is using OpenStreetMap data or other on a compatible license
  • accurate, objects hundreds meters from country border should be also correctly located

I am fine with some setup. Limited performance is also OK, number of processed entries is not massive and I am fine with script running for week or two.

Note that I am fully aware about number of geocoding APIs, I am currently using one but I need something that works offline.

#StackBounty: #geolocation #maps #geocoding Is it required to use a geocoding tool to plot points on a map?

Bounty: 50

I’m working on a project where I need to plot points/icons indicating the location of ships. I receive this data periodically.

Since all the points are located in the sea, I do not need to geocode an address. I just need to show the points on an interactive map.

Are there any free standalone tools that allow plotting points on an interactive map?

#StackBounty: #geolocation #maps #geocoding It is required to use a geocoding tool to plot dots on a map?

Bounty: 50

I’m working on a project where I need to plot points/icons indicating the location of ships, I receive this data periodically.

Now, I know I cound use google maps or any other geocoding tool to plot the dots, but since the all points are in the sea I do not need to geocode any address, just to show the dots on an interactive map, hence paying for a geocoding tool since like an overkill solution to me.

Are there good, free stanalone tool that allow to plot the points on a interactive map?
